So I built a new shield.....much cleaner. Looks really good. I was quite proud of the soldering work except now nothing works...., no display, no serial monitor info, nothing.....I saw the display flicker a bit when I plugged in the 12v power supply, and now no signs of life. The arduino lights up and will run the blink sketch. Oh well.

no serial monitor info?... so you get nothing back if you load the test and calibration sketch onto the arduino?

does the arduino work if the shield is not attached, sounds like there might be a short somewhere. if you want to send some pics i can help find it

I replaced the 7 segment display. Now it lights up, but cycles randomly. I also used a new arduino, with 12v battery. The serial info shows the pots are stable but, the pots adjust mode and delay The mode pot changes the delay value and the adjust pot changes the mode value, both between 0-1024 the old arduino does the same.

Ok....I just uploaded the Chronos software, not just the calibration, and it seems to function so far! Lets see what happens now.....

Pre-calibration successful! Now to finish the hardware bits. Thanks for talking me through this. I feel smarter.
